Effective training and development in companies in 7 steps

A well-structured training programme can significantly increase productivity and boost team morale. We have created this step-by-step summary in seven steps. The idea is that you can implement an effective programme yourself.

But keep an eye on your execution. Good planning is as important as execution. Follow these seven steps and you won't fail.

Step 1: The needs of the company

You have a need and the training programme is to meet that need. You can identify these needs through a drop in performance, the launch of a new product or by collecting ideas with other employees. Try to align these needs with the company's objectives.

Step 2: Define your goal

Once this general objective has been defined, we move on to the specific part of the programme. We need to adapt the objective for each employee situation. For example, at a product launch, how the sector you are going to implement the training should behave. The objective needs to be clear, reasonable, achievable, measurable and relevant.

Step 3: Setting up the programme

Have a clear roadmap before content construction. Always keep in mind the needs of the employees and not the speaker. Always prioritise content around your goal. Adopt some training principles, we will talk more about them below. Use practical situations that are close to reality. Create a space for interaction, with quizzes, for instance. Keep the lessons short and easy to absorb. Keep a light connection from one section to the next.

Step 4: Adopt training principles

Remember that you are training adults. Sometimes they are employees with years of experience in the activity they perform. Take into account that they are guided by clear goals and objectives. Use a methodology that helps them advance in their career. Try to involve the user with practical and clear tasks. Aligned with a good training flow, established in the previous step, learning is natural and pleasurable for the student.

Step 5: Developing the training programme

It's time to get hands-on. Start by following your schedule and create the program materials. At Hotscool there are several formats that you can use to assist in the learning of the employee, among them: video lessons, pdfs, questionnaires etc.

Step 6: Programme implementation

Here, the whole construction of the programme is over. Try to organise the activities through a flexible agenda for the employee. Remember that learning takes place inside your workplace and can often be interrupted.

Step 7: Evaluate

At the end of each training session, collect relevant information on the progress of employees. This way, in future trainings you can improve the impact that training has on the company's performance indicators, the engagement of employees when attending classes and the evolution between one training and another.

Try to maintain a regularity of training. Hotscool is a platform that was developed to make it easy to create a corporate university. You receive help from our consultants to implement this important tool.
